“I would love it if the information came in like a telegram. But, that isn’t how it happens. Instead the information arrives in shorthand.” Echo Bodine

Being intuitive is not magic. It is a skill, a skill we all have. To be intuitive, it does require us to have and be all of these 5 qualities. If any of these qualities are lacking, we will not be able to develop our intuition totally and as fully as we possibly could.

1. Comfortable with abstract ideas and concepts. As Echo said, the information from our intuition arrives in shorthand. In other words, the information from our intuition does not arrive in a wrapped package with a bow on top. The information arrives in abstraction in the mist of our lives and we have to be able to recognize the intuitive insights and then interpret them.

2. Comfortable being unique and different. Not odd. Unique. Different. We are taught throughout our lives (most of us), to fit in, to conform to the norm, and not to stand out. Listening to and certainly honoring our intuition when there is not solid evidence, proof, or facts to “back you up” is stepping outside the norm. Not being odd, but being unique and different.

3. Think and act with spontaneity. Insights can happen at anytime. It’s not as if you can schedule your intuition. You can hear a song on the radio, be in a conversation with a friend, or exercising and intuition can happen. The song might be “I am woman hear me roar,” and you realize you need to make yourself heard. You might be exercising and remember a childhood dream that you were going to do as an adult and now would be a good time to do it.

4. Self-confident and self-reliant. It is up to us to learn the skill of being intuitive. When we are able to recognize intuitive information, it is up to us to then interpret the insights. The same word can have different definitions for each person. When we ask someone else to interpret our insights, we lose the message our intuition had for us.

5. To have the courage to be self actualized. Self actualization is defined as “the process of establishing oneself as a whole person, able to develop one’s abilities, and to understand oneself; the achievement of one’s full potential through creativity, independence, spontaneity, and a grasp of the real world.” To establish oneself as a whole person…in the real world.

To be intuitive, it does require us to have and be all of these 5 qualities. If any of these qualities are lacking, we will not be able to develop our intuition totally and as fully as we possibly could.
